MANİSA - During the Newroz celebration in Manisa, the importance of Abdullah Öcalan's historic call was emphasised and the Newroz fire was lit by Sakine Demir, mother of Seve Demir who was murdered in Silopi in 2016.
In Manisa, a Newroz celebration was held in Lale Square with the slogan "Rebertiya Azad Civaka Demokratik (Free Leader, Democratic Society)/Democratic Society Newroz for Freedom". Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Bitlis MP Hüseyin Olan and Labourers' Movement Party (EHP) Vice Chair Sibel Uzun attended the celebration. Citizens wearing colourful clothes enjoyed the enthusiasm of Newroz by dancing.
Sakine Demir, the mother of Sêvê Demir, who was murdered during the curfews in Silopi district of Şirnex (Şırnak) in 2016, lit the Newroz fire.
Speaking afterwards, EHP Deputy Chair Sibel Uzun stated that the Kurdish people's struggle for equality has come to an important place and noted that freedom and equality will be approached when the call of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan is embraced. Sibel Uzun also pointed out that with this call, labourers and the people can open the doors for a more comfortable life.
'WE WILL MARCH TO FREEDOM'
Saying that this year's Newroz has a historical significance, DEM Party MP Hüseyin Olan, referring to the developments following Abdullah Öcalan's historic call, said, "If a new process is to start, Öcalan's conditions must be improved. Dialogue conditions need to be improved. Isolation must come to an end. We call on the government to ensure these conditions as soon as possible. It is important to socialise peace. We will march to freedom together. We must do our part. Turkey has paid enough price. We must put an end to this now."
After the speeches, the citizens danced to the songs of the group Gölgedekiler.
