On the 8th anniversary of the November 4 political coup against HDP MPs, trustees were appointed to 3 municipalities.
Xelfetî Municipality Co-Mayor Saniye Bayram, who was replaced by a trustee, said: “This people have woken up. We will win.”
Xelfetî Co-Mayor Mehmet Karayılan, who was replaced by a trustee, said: “We will stand by the people until the end. We will not step back.”
Êlih Co-Mayor Gülistan Sönük, who was replaced by a trustee, said: “We did not and will not accept this plundering and usurping regime.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that trustees were appointed to 3 DEM Party municipalities, citing ongoing investigations and penalties against the co-mayors.
Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was replaced by a trustee, said, “We will never give up. We will not step back from the struggle for democracy, peace and freedom.”
Trustees were appointed to Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, Êlih Municipality and Xelfetî Municipality.
Co-spokesperson Cengiz Çiçek stated that the socialization of peace is one of the raison d'être of the HDK and added: “How to overcome isolation? How can the physical freedom of Mr. Öcalan be ensured? The questions pass through the united struggle of the peoples.”
Residents of the district reacted against the appointment of a trustee to Esenyurt Municipality and expressed the need for more resistance against the trustee.
During its 22 years in power, the AKP has clung to the Kurdish issue and knocked on Abdullah Öcalan's door every time it got stuck. While the government's failure to take concrete steps has blocked the processes, the language used by the government in discussions on the new process does not inspire confidence.
