NEWS CENTER - Making a statement on the Iraqi general elections, Kubat Talabani announced that PUK and KDP will participate in the elections with separate lists.
Political mobilisation in the Kurdistan Region gained momentum before the Iraqi general elections to be held in November. Speaking at a press conference in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Kubat Talabani said: "We have decided not to unite under a single list. Instead, each party will enter the elections with its own list."
Kubat Talabani also stated that the long-standing government formation talks are continuing. Talabani said that the KDP delegation had visited Sulaymaniyah and announced that another meeting between the parties would be held this week.
On the other hand, while Kurdish opposition parties were negotiating for a united list, the Helwest Movement announced its withdrawal from the alliance. Among the groups seeking co-operation in the elections are parties such as New Generation, Yekgirtû, Komele and Bereyi Gel.
The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission announced that candidate applications for the elections to be held on 11 November will start on 25 May.
