COLEMÊRG - Villagers in Çemka village of Colemêrg started a demonstration against the mining exploration and said that they will not allow further plunder of their nature.
In Çemka village of Colemêrg (Hakkari), mining exploration has been carried out by Ölmez Meskan Mining Company for 5 years. Çemka villagers started a demonstration in the region yesterday against the mining work. Speaking at the protest, which continued on its 2nd day, the villagers stated that they will continue the protest until the mine sites are closed.
Harun Ecer stated that their nature is a part of their lives and said, "We have never been a part of the capitalist system's understanding of rent, and we will not be. At the moment, our mountains are being plundered, the water we drink is poisoned. Thousands of our trees have been destroyed, our nature has been riddled with holes. We are waging this struggle to protect nature. Our action will continue until this plunder is stopped."
'LET OCCUPATION AND PLUNDER COME TO AN END'
Abdurrahman Ecer stressed that they will not allow their nature to be plundered: "Our action is to put an end to the massacre of nature. They should take their hands off our village. They should put an end to this massacre. This is an occupation. Let the occupation and plunder end. There is no income in our village anymore, we cannot breed livestock. We are not allowed to go up our mountains. They want us to give up this geography. However, we are here and we will continue our struggle."
