May Day in Wan: We will struggle for labour, democracy and peace

WAN - Speaking at the May Day celebration in Wan with the participation of thousands of workers, Abdullah Zeydan stated that a new hope was born with Öcalan's call. KESK member Döne Gevher Koyun said, "Laws must be passed for peace andemocracy and this war process must end."

1 May Worker's Day being celebrated in Wan (Van) under the leadership of Confederation of Public Laborer's Unions (KESK), General Labour Union affiliated to Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DISK), Wan-Colemêrg (Hakkari) Medical Chamber, Wan Branch of Chamber of Dentists and Wan Provincial Coordination Board (İKK) of Turkish Union of Chambers of Architects and Engineers (TMMOB). Thousands of worker came together in front of Günpaş Shopping Mall in the morning with the slogan "We will win". Chanting "Bijî 1'ê Gulanê/ Long live May Day", "Labour is ours, the word is ours" and "Decree Laws will go, we will stay", the labourers then set off towards Musa Anter Park where the rally will be held.
 
Members of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and the Mezopotamya Women Journalists Association (MKG) were at the front of the cortege of trade unions, political parties and civil society organisations. The journalists held a banner reading "Free Press, Democratic Society / Çapemeniya Azad, Civaka Demokratîk" and chanted "Free press cannot be silenced" and "From Nazım to Cihan, free press is here".
 
After the minute of silence, Engin Işık spoke on behalf of the Organising Committee.
 
'EVERYONE SHOULD SUPPORT THE PROCESS'
 
Wan Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Abdullah Zeydan said, "With Mr Öcalan's 'Call for Peace and Democratic Society', a new hope was born in the country. The hope for peace has grown in the country. This process is a process that will benefit everyone. The right to hope, ill prisoners and dismissed people should return to their jobs and trustee practices should be ended. We will continue to struggle against labour exploitation, usurpation of will and trustees."
 
Then KESK Assembly Executive Board Member Döne Gevher said, "Those who steal our labour, those who condemn us to hunger, those who target women's struggle for equality and freedom should know that we will continue to resist. The voice of peace will rise in these squares. We will continue to struggle against this corrupt order. We will continue to fight for labour, democracy and peace. Laws must be passed for peace and democracy and this war process must be ended."
