RİHA - The gendarmerie prevented the Amara marchers from reaching the entrance of Xelfetî district and attacked them with water cannons and gas bombs.
Citizens travelling to Riha's (Urfa) Xelfetî (Halfeti) district to celebrate the 76th birthday of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan were prevented by the gendarmerie at the entrance of the district. The gendarmerie set up a barricade at the entrance of Xelfetî and also prevented the passage of Amara marchers.
The mass, includign young people who had started the march from Amed (Diyarbakır) to Amara on 1 April, resisted the barricades with slogans and songs they sang for hours. Thousands of people from Dilok (Antep), Botan (Kurdistan region) and Riha marched against the barricades. The gendarmerie attacked with water cannons and gas bombs, but the mass and the youth responded with slogans and chants of "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)".
While the wait in the region continued, some people fell ill due to the tear gas.
