WAN - Pointing out that a historic window of opportunity has opened for Turkey, "This opportunity is Mr Öcalan. This opportunity includes a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue and the possibility for everyone to live as equal citizens" said Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar, DBP Co-chair.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çigdem Kilicgun Ucar, in her speech during the protests in Wan, reacted against the detention of Mümin Erol, Co-mayor of Tetwan (Tatvan). Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said, "If you are Kurdish, if you insist on democratic politics and if you are a DEM Party member, you can be detained at any moment. Just as the people of Wan defended their co-chairs, the same resistance will continue in Tatvan. We address the detained mentality once again from here: Our people have been on the streets for days, many of our friends are still under custody. Our journalists and citizens who stand guard to protect their municipalities are being targeted. Where in the world is it a crime to stand against thieves?"
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar emphasised that the appointment of trustees is usurping the will of the people and stated that trustee system is "theft". Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said, "The trustee regime has been the biggest obstacle to the peoples and democracy in Turkey. However, trustees will no longer be able to prolong the life of the AKP government."
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar stated that the law enforcement officers who entered the municipality on the day the trustee was appointed threatened the people and reminded the expression "You will see the power of the Turks" used by the law enforcement officers.
'A THOUSAND GREETINGS TO ÖCALAN'
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar stated that there is a window of opportunity for democracy to come to life in Turkey and added, "This opportunity is Mr Öcalan. This opportunity will lead to a democratic solution of the Kurdish issue and it holds the possibility for everyone to live as equal citizens. It carries the will of Alevis, women and young people to live equal and free. There is a strong will for peace in the face of the war imposed on us as the only option in the middle East. Thousands of greetings to Mr Abdullah Öcalan who ccreated this opportunity. Mr Öcalan's discussions and the will for peace are important for Turkey to become a model country for democracy in the Middle East. The emergence of this will is now inevitable."
Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar emphasised that Turkey has a historical debt to the Kurdish people and continued, "100 years of governments and the state owe the Kurdish people for the recognition of their identity and freedom. We do not want anything from anyone's right, we only want back what was stolen from us. We defend democracy against the trustees and the oppressive regime. The struggle of the Kurdish people will continue."
