ISTANBUL - Lawyer Tahir Demirci, who visited seriously ill prisoner Abdulkadir Kuday, pointed out that bad news could come at any moment and said: “He should be released as soon as possible.”
The condition of seriously ill prisoner Abdulkadir Kuday, who is bedridden in Metris Type R Prison No. 2, is getting worse every day. Tahir Demirci, one of the lawyers of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), who recently visited Kuday, who has ALS disease, which causes the nervous system to be unable to send impulses, as well as other diseases, and has fallen below 40 kilograms, gave information about Kuday's latest condition.
HE HAS VISION AND HEARING PROBLEMS
Demirci stated that Kuday was brought to the lawyer's visit on a stretcher and that Kuday started to suffer from forgetfulness, double vision and hearing problems. Demirci stated that Kuday could not focus much when talking about anything and that he had great difficulty in both speaking and breathing.

HEART ATTACK CONCERN
Demirci reminded that Kuday had a heart attack on July 10, 2023 and stated that his palpitations continued and he was worried about having a new attack. Underlining that Kuday has problems eating and cannot eat everything, Demirci said that due to his illness, he needs to eat a protein-based diet and that they have also applied to the prison administration in this direction.
TREATMENT IS PREVENTED
Demirci reminded that Kuday's health condition worsened on August 22 and that he was then taken to Çam and Sakura City Hospital in Başakşehir. Emphasizing that Kuday refused to be treated because the hospital administration refused to accept a companion, Demirci stated that Kuday, who has 16 different diseases other than ALS, could not meet his own needs and refused treatment because his request for a companion was not accepted.
Demirci stated that the process regarding Kuday's application for release with a request for caution and the application they made for a presidential pardon is still ongoing.
Demirci also stated that they met with Ergin Aktaş, a seriously ill prisoner who is in the same ward with Kuday and is missing both hands. Reminding that Aktaş was not released despite the Forensic Medicine Institution's (ATK) report stating that Aktaş “cannot survive in prison”, Demirci said that prisoners are in solidarity with each other and that this is how they hold on to life.
'HIS CONDITION WORSENS'
Stating that state authorities are turning a deaf ear to Kuday's health condition, Demirci called for sensitivity. Pointing out that Kuday's life-threatening situation is increasing, Demirci continued as follows: “Prison conditions, especially for a prisoner like Abdulkadir Kuday, who has dropped to 40 kilograms and is getting heavier, are worsening his condition and will lead to irreversible consequences. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. I hope he will be released as soon as possible.”
