ŞIRNEX - It has been 9 years since the 8-day curfew in Cizîr district where 21 people were killed. While those responsible were not put on trial, Cemile Cağırga's lifeless body was kept in a deep freezer.

It has been 9 years since the curfew in the Cizîr (Cizre) district of Şirnex (Şırnak) was declared on September 4, 2015 and lasted until September 12. The curfew, which was imposed after the government shelved the “solution process” launched to resolve the Kurdish issue, cut off the district's connection to the surrounding area. Basic services such as electricity, water, mobile networks, bakeries and pharmacies were shut down. After the district was blockaded, Cudî and Çemkûrk (Nur) neighborhoods were shelled with heavy weapons.

BURIAL OF BODIES NOT ALLOWED

Soldiers and police officers prevented the transportation of citizens wounded in the attacks to hospitals and opened fire at citizens carrying the wounded. Cemile Çağırga, 10-year-old Cemile Çağırga, who was well known to the public, was murdered in front of her house. Çağırga's body was not allowed to be buried and was kept in a deep freezer for 3 days. During the curfew, many citizens' homes and workplaces were damaged and hundreds of people were forced to leave their homes due to lack of security of life. The attacks launched by the security forces continued until the morning of September 12. During the 9-day curfew, a total of 21 people, including Muhammed Tahir Yaramuş, the youngest of whom was a 35-day-old baby, and İbrahim Çiçek, the oldest of whom was 80 years old, lost their lives.

21 PEOPLE WERE KILLED

The names of those who lost their lives during the 9-day curfew in Cizîr are as follows; “Mehmet Emin Levent (26), Xetban Bülbül (65), Hacı Ata Borçin (70), Cemile Çağırga (10), Muhammed Tahir Yaramuş (35-day-old baby), Sait Çağdavul (19), Bahattin Sevinik (50), Suphi Sarak (52), Osman Çağlı (18), Bünyamin İrci (14), Eşref Erdin (60), Zeynep Taşkın (18), Maşallah Edin (35), Özgür Taşkın (18), İbrahim Çiçek (80), Meryem Süne (45), Mehmet Sait Nayci (16), Mehmet Dökmen (70), Selman Ağar (10), Şahin Açık (74), Mehmet Erdoğan (75). ”

VIOLATION DECISION BY THE CONSTUTIONAL COURT

In the legal struggle launched after the ban, not a single person was prosecuted. The files of Mehmet Emin Levent and Osman Çağlı, who were not prosecuted, were taken to the Constitutional Court (AYM). The Constitutional Court ruled that there was no effective investigation and issued a decision on 'violation of the right to life'. Upon this, the investigation was restarted. However, no progress has been made so far.
