ÎDIR - Although Ataş Göbe, a 30-year prisoner in Bolu Type F Prison, completed his execution on June 2, his release was prevented for 3 months because he refused to accept the “remorse” imposition.
With the introduction of the Prison Administrative and Observation Board (İGK) in 2021, hundreds of political prisoners were either executed or prevented from being released. Ataş Göbe, a 30-year prisoner in Bolu F Type High Security Prison, is one of those who were prevented from being released. Göbe completed his sentence on June 2, and his release was postponed for 3 months on the grounds that he refused to accept the “remorse” imposition.
Detained in 1994, Göbe was sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) on charges of “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”. Göbe, who completed his 30-year sentence on June 2, was prevented from being released for 3 months by the Prison Administrative and Observation Board, which ruled that Göbe was not in good behavior because he did not accept the “remorse” plea. Göbe struggles with diseases such as vascular occlusion, asthma, bronchitis, heart disease and osteoporosis caused by prison conditions.
