ŞIRNEX - Ayşe Tokay, the mother of the prisoner who is protesting for the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, said: "If we want peace, this war and isolation must end."
The protest initiated by the prisoners in prisons, demanding the abolishing of the isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, ensuring his physical freedom and the solution of the Kurdish issue, continues. Prisoners continue their hunger strike, which they started on November 27, 2023, with a refusal to appear in court and a family-phone boycott as of April 4. Ayşe Tokay, mother of Kumri Tokay, who is held in Kayseri Bünyan Women's Closed Prison, called for public awareness.
'ISOLATION CONCERNS EVERYONE'
Emphasizing that solidarity with the prisoners should be increased, mother Tokay said: "Everyone should hear these demands and stand up. In the last phone call I had with my daughter, she said to me, 'Take care of us.' There are ill prisoners in prisons and the situation is not good. If everyone stood up like the prisoners, the current problems in Turkey today would be solved. The isolation imposed on Mr. Abdullah Öcalan is a situation that concerns not only the prisoners, but everyone. I want this isolation on Mr. Öcalan to end and the deaths to stop. For this, we need to hear the demands of the prisoners."
'OUR EYES AND EARS ARE ON THE PRISONS'
Mother Tokay said: "Our children tell us, 'We will resist until our action gets results.' Let's hear the voice of resistance rising within four walls. The isolation gets worse day by day. Breaking this isolation is not just the responsibility of the prisoners. Everyone outside needs to see themselves as responsible and fight against isolation. Unless the isolation is broken, this war will deepen further. That's why we say that stopping the war is possible by eliminating the isolation. This war is a dirty war. We don't want any mother's heart to be broken. We want a solution. We are keeping our eyes and ears on news from prisons day and night. The food we eat gets stuck in our throat. We need to lighten the burden of the prisoners. Mr. Öcalan needs to be released. Turkey is bankrupt. If we want peace, this war and isolation must end."
