AMED- Gülistan Güven, the mother of prisoner Sudan Güven, who started treatment due to the risk of cancer, called: "Let me get my daughter treated."
The release of Sudan Güven, who is held in Alanya Type L Closed Prison, was postponed 3 times because she did not accept the imposition of "regret.” Güven, whose release has been postponed since May 4, stated in her weekly phone call with her family on December 19 that she had started treatment due to "suspicion of breast cancer.”
Güven said: “I started medication upon suspicion of diagnosis. I take cortisone medication twice a day. I went to the doctor again because one of my wounds was getting worse and it was decided to do a new biopsy. My two doses of cortisone medication have been increased to three doses.'
'LET ME GET MY DAUGHTER TREATED'
Güven's mother, Gülistan Güven (80), who’s illness progresses, has difficulty speaking and is wheelchair-bound, reacted to what happened. Güven, a mother who lives with her son Metin, who was released after his release was postponed twice, asked: "My daughter has completed her sentence, why don't you release her?" Stating that her daughter did not have any health problems before her arrest, mother Güven said: “However, she is ill now and her condition is not good. She is not treated adequately in prison. Let me get my daughter treated myself. I want the release of the prisoners and peace. I cannot go to the visits because I am old and wheelchair-bound. I haven't been able to visit my daughter for 9 years.”
'WHETHER IS IT CANCER WILL BE TESTED AGAIN'
Güven's lawyer, Nesibe Bahadır, stated that breast cancer is suspected, but a full diagnosis has not been given yet. Bahadır said: “Since the biopsy result taken about 3-4 weeks ago due to the wounds and cysts on her chest was not clear, the oncologist started a six-week cortisol treatment in order to heal the wounds and dry the inflamed area. Treatment is continued by increasing cortisol doses. The 3rd week of her treatment is now over. There are 3 weeks until her treatment ends. So, when the 6-week treatment period is completed, a biopsy will be taken again and it will be investigated again whether the mass in the chest area is cancerous or not."
‘WHO IS SUDAN GÜVEN?’
Sudan Güven was arrested in Bismil district of Amed in 2012. Güven was tried at Erzurum 1st High Criminal Court for her activities in the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). Güven was sentenced to 15 years and 3 months in prison on charges of “being a member of a terrorist organization” and similar allegations. Güven completed the sentence of 11 years, 5 months, 23 days on May 4. However, just a few days before her release, Güven's release was postponed 3 times for a total of 9 months, on the grounds that she was "not on good behavior" by the Administrative and Observation Board (İGK) of Alanya Type L Closed Prison, where she held.
İGK cited she went on the hunger strike due to the absolute isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the disciplinary punishments she had previously received, the actions she participated in prison and "lack of regret" as the reasons for the postponement of the release. The Administration and Observation Board will re-evaluate Sudan who at risk for cancer, on January 31.
