ÊLIH - Drawing attention that the hunger strikes in prisons, Sultan Azboy, the sister of ill prisoner Sıddık Kıvanç said: “These people are curious about the health of Abdullah Öcalan. How many earthquakes have been happening?"
Despite all attempts, the release of ill prisoners, whose health conditions are getting worse day by day due to poor conditions and rights violations in prisons, is prevented. According to the report of the Human Rights Association (IHD); 1,517 ill prisoners, 651 of whom are seriously ill, are being held in prison. 38 prisoners, unable to even meet their basic needs, have been left to die despite calls for their immediate release. While more than 100 prisoners who were left to die in the last two years died in prison, those who were released on their deathbed died shortly after leaving prison.
Ill PRISONER HAD A HEART ATTACK TWICE
47-year-old Sıddık Kıvanç, who has been detained since July 6, 1997 and sentenced to life imprisonment, is just one of the prisoners suffering from health problems in prison. Kıvanç, who held in prisons in Êlih(Batman), Sêrt(Siirt), Mêrdîn(Mardin), Samsun, Tekirdağ and Manisa throughout his captivity, is currently being held in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No. 1.
During this process, Kıvanç was exposed to intense rights violations and had two heart attacks, and had angiography twice. His family is worried about Kıvanç's life due to a possible crisis. Kıvanç's family drew attention that the improvement of the ill prisoners' condition depends on the ongoing hunger strikes and called for support for the prisoners' action.
'HEAVY LOAD IS BEING LEAVED TO PRISONS'
Stating that one of the biggest cruelties is the approach towards ill prisoners, Sultan Azboy, Kıvanç's older sister, said: "This cruelty will end with the support of hunger strikes. My brother has been resisting in prison for 26 years. He was held in many prisons during this period. He fell ill in prison, where he went to prison intact. He was subjected to oppression in every prison. Conditions in prisons are very bad. Now they are subjected to intense isolation. The burden of those who resist in prison is always heavy. It's up to them to resist. Because we remain mute and deaf to the struggle, those in prison go on hunger strike and resist within four walls. I call out to those who are outside; If they are going to resist, they should resist now. When the dead bodies come out in prisons, no one should come for the funeral. He called on everyone to join their resistance and resist.
'THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A CONSCIENCE SHOULD SPEAK UP'
Underlining that the aggravated isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is unacceptable, Azboy called on everyone with a conscience to fight to end the isolation. Stating that there is a struggle all over the world to end the isolation and raids in İmralı, Azboy said: “These people are curious about Mr. Öcalan's health. How many times have earthquakes occurred? People want to know what happened there. Let this lawlessness end. Let him meet with his family and lawyers. Everyone should take responsibility to end the isolation. No one should forget those who resisted for this people."
