AMED- Tahir Elçi was commemorated at his grave in Yeniköy Cemetery on the 8th anniversary of his murder.
Amed Bar Association President Tahir Elçi, who was murdered in front of the Four-Legged Minaret in Sur district of Amed(Diyarbakır) on November 28, 2015, was commemorated at his grave in Yeniköy Cemetery in Rezan (Bağlar) district on the 8th anniversary of his death. Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) President Erinç Sağkan, many bar association presidents, lawyers, human rights defenders, members of parliament and family members attended the commemoration.
Amed Bar Association President Nahit Eren drew attention that the perpetrators could not be found even after 8 years and stated that they will continue their struggle until the perpetrators are found. Eren said: "Tahir Elçi was working for human rights in these lands. He determined human rights advocacy as his path and method in his life. We say once again that Tahir Elçi will not be forgotten."
PERPETRATORS ARE REQUESTED TO BE FOUND
Stating that the Ambassador made a great effort to bring peace to Kurdistan, Öztürk Türkdoğan, MP cochair of HEDEP Law and Human Rights Commission said: "He took an open stance against the war. He paid the price for this by losing his life. Our dear comrade Tahir Elçi, our comrades are being massacred even after you leave. We will continue our struggle for peace. Be assured, we will continue this path with democratic politics."
Deputy Group Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Ali Mahir Basarir, said, "The perpetrators have still not been found. If we are here today with the bar associations, our valuable colleagues, the president of the bar association, and our MP friends, we want to tell Turkey this; we will not let this matter go."
Êlih Bar Association President Efkan Şenses said, "Tahir Elçi used to participate in the struggle for justice and sometimes the environmental struggle in Adana. We continue the legacy he left behind. We will continue our legal struggle to conclude his case."
Carnations were left on Elçi's grave during the commemoration.
