AGIRÎ - After the mountainous areas in Giyadîn were destroyed by mines, this time groundwater became a target.
Koza Altın İşletmeleri A.Ş., which received a license under the name of "gold and silver project" in Giyadîn (Diyadin) district of Agirî, caused a great ecological destruction in the region. In the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report prepared for the areas where the company will work, it was determined that there were 218 different plants in the region, 7 of the plants were endemic, 3 were rare plants and 16 reptile species. However, despite this, the company was given permission to explore for cyanide minerals.
GROUNDWATER IS THE TARGET
While the discussions about the mine destruction in question continued, this time the city's underground waters were taken into consideration. The General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) started hot water exploration works in Hecî Xalit village of the district.
According to the information announced by MTA on August 22; Geothermal resource exploration will be carried out in an area of 3 thousand 400 square meters in the district. Within the scope of the project, drilling is planned to be carried out in the village. While the project cost is calculated as approximately 10 million TL, the drilling well is expected to be 2 thousand 750 meters deep.
VILLAGERS: WE HAVE NO IDEA
The village residents we interviewed regarding the issue stated that a construction site was established in the region and construction equipment was brought in a week ago. Villagers shared that company officials sometimes said they were looking for hot water and sometimes gold. Villagers stated that the scope of the work was not shared with them.
