NEWS CENTER - Lawyers in Northern and Eastern Syria made a new application to the UN to meet with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Lawyers who are members of the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative to Defend Abdullah Öcalan and Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Initiative made a statement in the cities of Qamishlo and Kobanê in Northern and Eastern Syria. Gathering in front of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees office in Qamishlo, the members of the initiative drew attention to the absolute isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı. The Kurdish version of the statement was read by Xanim Eyo, Co-Chair of the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative to Defend Abdullah Öcalan, and the Arabic version was read by Xalid Omer, a member of the initiative.
The statement said: "The isolation has been aggravated in recent years. The Leadership (Öcalan) is not allowed to meet with his family and lawyers. He was last able to meet with his lawyers in 2019 and with his family in 2021. No information can be obtained regarding his health status. The Turkish state is violating its own laws and international laws. The isolation has turned into a psychological torture. In the statement where the silence of the CPT was criticized, it was noted that "We strongly condemn these inhuman and illegal practices of the Turkish state." After the statement, a copy of the statement was presented to the UN Refugee Commission officials.
