NEWS CENTER- TBB filed a criminal complaint against the Red Crescent officials to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) filed a criminal complaint against the Red Crescent officials with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the grounds that they "abuse of trust".
Announcing that it has filed a criminal complaint on its social media account, TBB said: “The main duty of the Red Crescent, which is a valuable organization that has served our nation even before the date of the Republic, and which carries out activities in the status of an association working for the public interest in accordance with the Law on Associations; In the event of a natural disaster, it is to protect human life and health, to make maximum efforts to fight hunger, poverty and deprivation, to deliver the existing tents to the disaster area within the scope of the duty and authority given to it.
'VIOLATING HUMAN RIGHTS LAW'
The statement continued as follows: “In order to carry out the aforementioned task and to solve the housing problem of the citizens as soon as possible, instead of sending the tents to the region immediately, to put the tents up for sale through the establishment it has established, for the Red Crescent managers, it creates criminal liability within the framework of the laws to which they are subject. This action of the suspects, in addition to criminal liability, also clearly and explicitly violates humanitarian law, the basic principles of the International Red Cross-Red Crescent Movement, and international human rights law.
It was revealed that the Red Crescent sold tents and food to AHBAP after the Maraş-centered earthquakes and caused a reaction in the society.
