ANKARA - HDP Deputy Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, who applied to the Ministry of Justice to visit Abdullah Öcalan, stated that the isolation is an absolute torture and said, "We want to meet with Mr. Öcalan as soon as possible."
Asrın Law Office announced that their client Abdullah Öcalan refused to meet with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, which visited the İmralı Type F High Security Prison. PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan's refusal to accept the CPT delegation was interpreted as a protest against the ban on lawyer visits.
While applications for Abdullah Öcalan by his lawyers and his family for a long time were left unanswered, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz and HDP MPs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Nuran İmir and Erdal Aydemir applied to the Ministry of Justice to visit İmralı. In the petition submitted to the Ministry of Justice, Abdullah Öcalan, who had not been heard from for 20 months, was requested to be visited.
TOOL TO DESIGN POLITICS
Speaking to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) about the application and the isolation on Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison, HDP Muş Deputy Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit said that the isolation in İmralı is being used as a tool to design politics in Turkey.
Koçyiğit stated that the isolation in İmralı has continued for more than 23 years, but no contact has been made with Abdullah Öcalan for the last 20 months.
NO LEGAL BARRIERS BEFORE CPT
Drawing attention to the statement made by Asrın Law Office, Koçyiğit said, "The CPT may not disclose the content and details of the meeting, but there is no legal obstacle for a person to say whether or not he has been in prison. In fact, this is his responsibility. The fact that this is not said and there is an ambiguity has obviously caused concern both for us and for the public. We quickly made an application with our MPs under the chairmanship of DBP Co-Chair Salih Aydeniz.”
'WE WANT TO MEET WITH ÖCALAN'
Emphasizing that they want to go to the island as soon as possible and have a meeting with Mr. Öcalan, Koçyiğit recalled the application made by HDP Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, as well as Party Spokesperson Ebru Günay and Party's Executive Board Member Ömer Öcalan to visit İmralı Prison and told that these application not being responded is deepening the deadlock in the Kurdish question.
'AN EXECUTION SPREADED OVER TIME'
Calling both the democratic public and the Ministry of Justice, Koçyiğit said, "The current situation itself is unacceptable, because the laws of this country do not allow for any form of isolation. This is a crime against humanity. This is absolute torture. An execution spreaded over time. A quick step back is needed. We are concerned about both the applications of the families, the applications made by the lawyers and we, the parliamentarians, about this issue. We would like to have a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Öcalan as soon as possible and see if he is in good health. Beyond that, the issue of isolation must be removed from the agenda and steps must be taken to end the isolation
