ISTANBUL - Many people were beaten and detained in the police attack against Saturday Mothers.
The 5th hearing of the lawsuit against 46 people, including relatives of the disappeared, who were battered and detained during the police attack on the 700th week sit-in of the Saturday Mothers/People's protest, filed with the accusation of 'unauthorized demonstration', will be held at the 27th High Criminal Court of Istanbul Courthouse.
Saturday Mothers/People wanted to make a statement in front of the courthouse with representatives of rights organisations, political parties and non-governmental organisations before the hearing. However, the police did not allow an the statement to be read due to the one-day ban decision of the Kağıthane District Governor's Office, so the crowd did not make a statement and wanted to wait in front of the courthouse until the hearing. The police blockaded the crowd, battered many people and detained them.
14 people, including Lawyers Efkan Bolaç and Meriç Eyüboğlu, Saturday People and DİSK Press Union Chairperson Faruk Eren, Saturday Mothers Newroz Tosun, İHD İstanbul Branch President Gülseren Yoleri, İHD İstanbul Branch Manager Leman Yurtsever, Left Party Council Member Alper Taş, Murat Akbaş, Uğur Tuncer, Ümit Sezer, Yalçın Köse and Burcu Bingöllü, were detained handcuffed behind the back.
