ŞIRNAK - Calling for a march to Mount Cudi against the plunder of nature on September 17, HDP Şırnak Provincial Co-Chair Abdullah Güngen said: "We must oppose this plundering so that our nature does not turn into a desert."
Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and Mesopotamia Ecology Movement took action against the deforestation in Şırnak. A mass march will be held on the 17th of September towards Mount Judi, where trees are cut by soldiers and rangers for "security" reasons with the slogan of "We are marching against the destruction of war and the plunder of nature". The preparations for the march, supported by representatives of many ecological organisations and non-governmental organisations, continue.
'LIFE IS BEING DESTROYED'
HDP Şırnak Provincial Co-Chair Abdullah Güngen called on everyone to march against ecological plunder. Güngen said: "Nature is life. If our nature is being destroyed, our life will be destroyed. Our breath will be taken away. The life of all living things will perish. Regardless of people's opinions, we should raise our voice against the plundering of nature. The villages of Kurdistan were plundered and evacuated. Nature is being massacred today, too. This is the second stage of the special policy implemented in the region. First, they tried to assimilate the Kurdish youth in schools. Now they try to assimilate the people by plundering nature. The nature of the region is being destroyed. The entire forest area is being destroyed. We want to draw attention to the plundering in the entire region on Mount Judi. No animal or tree is left in our region. Life is destroyed. We must oppose this plundering so that our nature does not return to the deserts of Arabia."
EVERYONE WILL FLOCK TO CUDI
Güngen said: "Our march will have a wide participation. There will be a large participation from Marmara, Aegean, Urfa, Amed, Siirt, Batman, Mardin and Şırnak. DBP Co-Chairs, HDP Group Deputy Chairs, HDP MPs will also participate in the march. In addition, regional bar associations, labor and democracy forces, ecological organisations, Human Rights Association (İHD) as well as thousands of citizens will participate.
Pointing out that their march will be against the plunder of nature, Güngen said: "We expect all our people to join this march and raise their voices against this plunder. On September 17, we will come together in the village of Milgê Shantiyê (İkizce) at the foot of Mount Cudi and march towards Cudi."
