NEWS CENTER - People in Kobanê and Hesekê protested the attacks against Shengal.
Dozens of young people in the Kobanê Canton of Northern and Eastern Syria protested the Iraqi army's attacks on Shengal and the KDP's involvement in these attacks with a statement they made in the Free Women's Square. Xunav Ali, Co-Chair of the Euphrates Youth and Sports Committee, spoke on behalf of the youth who carried banners, written, "Come to the freedom fight against betrayal and occupation" and "Come to the freedom fight in the year of victory".
"Where were the Iraqi army and the Barzani family when ISIS occupied Shengal?" Xunav Ali asked, adding: "The purpose of these attacks is not to liberate Shengal, but to occupy it. We would like to emphasize once again that these attacks cannot break the will of the people of Shengal. We call on the youth from all over Kurdistan to take action to defend Shengal."
Following the press statement the young people marched from Free Women's Square to Martyr Egid Square and Freedom Square.
PRESS STATEMENT IN HESEKÊ
In the city of Hesekê, dozens of Kurdish and Arab opinion leaders and directors of non-governmental organizations protested the attacks against Shengal with a statement in front of the PYD building. In a statement read by Hisên Berî, one of the PYD administrators, the followings were underlined: "The Iraqi army launched a comprehensive attack on Shengal with a joint conspiracy between the Kazimi Government, the KDP and the Turkish state. This attack is all over 2014 again. The Iraqi government should have stopped the Turkish invasion of Iraq instead of doing this. The tripartite plan of the Iraqi government, KDP and the Turkish state must be stopped."
