ANKARA - In the 124th month of the Roboski Massacre, Justice for Roboski Initiative made a statement saying, “There will be no justice in Turkey until justice comes to Roboski”.
Justice for Roboski Initiative came together in the 124th month of the massacre of 34 people, 19 of whom were children, as a result of the bombardment of warplanes in the Roboski village of Şırnak. In the statement made in front of the Ankara Branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD), the following banner was held, "Find the killers, Roboski should never happen again"
JUDICIARY IS SIDE OF THE KILLERS'
Tanju Gündüzalp, one of the founders of the Justice For Roboski Initiative, who read the statement, said, “Systems, politics and administrations; the state have been implementing this impunity and lawlessness for 100 years in all the massacres they took part in.Even though the society knows what happened and how and who did it, all cases were closed with impunity. When we take look at the state and its massacres since 1915, all were closed with injustice and impunity. The judiciary was on the side of the governments, not the oppressed, the murdered, the victims. We also see it in state law, which is trying to turn Gezi, where we were all there, defending our land, trees, and city, into a crime and a punishment."
‘ROBOSKI IS THE STATE LIMIT’
Emphasizing that struggle is the way to end the injustice and impunity that developed after Roboski and all the massacres, Gündüzalp said, “Without confrontation, it is not possible to achieve democracy. The existence of wars, massacres and politics that do not seek a solution; hunger, economic chaos, non-human-oriented politics and destruction continue in our lives. Roboski is the border of both the State and democracy. If the limit of the solution is Roboski, which is the threshold of yesterday, then the threshold of not repeating the massacres and re-establishing the solution tomorrow is Roboski. For Roboski, the limit of stubbornly opposing the borders and the road to peace is justice. Roboski is the threshold and the border when history, time, people, borders, trees, water, creatures, life and pain are stopped.
'THE REASON FOR WHAT HAPPENED IS THE ABSENCE OF JUSTICE
Saying that the memory of every society will continue to exist, Gündüzalp continued: “Even though hiding and denial are used, memory demands peace and justice. Justice will not come to Turkey without justice for Roboski. Massacres and genocides are constantly repeated with continuity from the historical process. Those who want to confront and settle accounts with the past are also punished by the state. A future cannot be built and a just order cannot be established without confronting the past. The truth of what we live is the state, impunity, war, the absence of justice. There is no statute of limitations for any massacre.”
