DİYARBAKIR - People started to flock to the Diyarbakır Newroz Celebrations early in the morning with the slogan "Dem dema serkeftinê ye" (It is time to succeed). The celebrations has begun.
The final Newroz celebrations of this year is being held in Diyarbakır with the slogan "Dem dema serkeftinê ye". Under the leadership of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the people of the city flocked to the celebration held in the Newroz Park in Bağlar district. The people, who left their homes early in the morning from the surrounding provinces and districts, set out for the Newroz square.
A COLOURFUL START FOR THE DAY
Citizens, who went out on the streets with their local clothes, woke up in the morning of Newroz to the with music everywhere. Children, youth and women, dressed in yellow, red and greenm local cloths joyfully set out for the Newroz Park. Along the way, vehicles accompanied the citizens with Newroz songs and horns. The students boycotted the schools and made their way to Newroz.
ÖCALAN SLOGANS
Arriving at the Newroz Park, where the Newroz celebration is held, thousands entered the area 5 different search points. The crowd, dancing the halay, shouted slogans "Be Serok jiyan na be (No life without President Abdullah Öcalan)", "Jin jiyan azadi (Woman, life, freedom)" and "Bijî berxwedana zindana (Long live the dungeon resistance)". The arrivals of the mass, mostly young people, continue.
POLICE DID NOT ALLOW THE NATIONAL CLOTHES
Diyarbakir Police, which has been preventing Newroz for days, banned the national clothes of the Kurds at the search points. One of the speakers of Newroz, Azadî Party Chairperson Ayetullah Aşiti, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-chair Serdar Altan and many journalists were not allowed into the area because of their national clothes. People protested this with the slogan "Bijî Öcalan(Long live Abdullah Öcalan)".
NEWROZ STARTED WITH RESISTANCE
Thousands gathered in the Newroz Park started dancing the halay, accompanied by slogans. Entering the park, the police tried to detain the young people who shouted slogans so, the young people who marched on the police barricades continued their slogan with "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Abdullah Öcalan)". Tensions rose between the members of the Newroz Organizing Committee and the police who tried to suppress the slogans with music from the stage.
Passing the check points, people joined the Halay.

DTK Co-chair Berdan Öztürk, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz, HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan, and Azadi Party Chairperson Ayetullah Aşitî will each make speeches on behalf of the Kurdistani Alliance Group at the Diyarbakır Newroz hosted by artists Devrim Demir and Özcan Ateş.
