URFA - Esma Başkale, who is being held in Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison, reported that their wards were raided arbitrarily and she was threatened with death.
Esma Başkale, who is being held in Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison, called her family yesterday and said that their wards were raided by the guards and they were threatened with death. The Sister of Melek Başkale said that her sister called them yesterday, just like every Friday, and shared the information that the guards raided the wards to search the place.
GUARDS THREATEN THE WOMEN WITH MORE RAIDS
Stating that more than 15 guards who raided her sister's ward, Melek Başkale said, "The guards told them that they will not leave them in peace and they will raid the ward more frequently. My sister said they threatened the prisoners with dead and stormed the place. My sister also said that they will not accept this treatment. The guards are phsycally attacking the female prisoners and tear their books."
Stating that this is done deliberately as a policy before Newroz, Başkale said: "The prisoners naturally got more defensive because of this. They said that they absolutely do not accept this treatment. She said that investigations was launched against them for everything they do and they recieve disciplinary punishment. She also told that informed the first and second prison directors about the situation however they did not get a response and they were pressured by the administration.”
Stating that they, as families, are also concerned about this situation and do not accept this treatment, Melek Başkale called out for awareness.
