NEWS CENTER - Stating that 21st Century's war of honour was fought in Kobané against ISIS, PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan said: ""We will carry the free life to the new life in the person of Kobanê with the spirit of resistance of Arin Mirkan."
The Kurds, who were not a party to the civil war that started in Syria in 2011, declared the cantons of Cizîre, Kobanê and Afrin to govern themselves in 2014. With the support of global powers that could not tolerate the Kurd's demand for self-government, ISIS launched attacks from three sides on Kobanê on September 15, 2014. With the attacks of ISIS and the resistance of the people against it Kobanê became a major agenda around the world. With the attack on Kobané and the statements of Turkish President Erdoğan that said Kobané will fall, caused a revolt of the Kurds. The demonstrations carried out by the Kurds, who took to the streets all over Turkey on October 6-8, 2014 went down in history as the Kobanê Serhildan. The demonstrations, which lasted for 3 days, mobilized the International Coalition Forces. Despite the heavy attacks of ISIS, Kobanê did not fall and was completely liberated on January 26, 2015. Going down in history as a monument of resistance against brutality, Kobanê became a symbol of victory. PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who made frequent warnings and calls during these ISIS attacks, described the fight against ISIS in Kobanê, where the historical resistance was displayed, as the "21st Century's war of honour".
RED LINE
In the meeting with the İmralı Delegation on November 9, 2013, before the ISIS attacks on Kobanê, Öcalan underlined that Northern and Eastern Syria are the Kurds' red line. During the meeting held on November 21, 2014, when the ISIS attacks against Kobanê continued, the PKK Leader spoke about the Kobanê demonstrations, “It is important that the parties learn from these events, that the vital importance of a democratic solution on this basis is understood and that negotiations-based efforts are accelerated. The duty of the parties is to establish their relations with each other on a solid and secure basis. If this is not done, the process we are going through will inevitably result in a deep blow. However, the most important option for all peoples and beliefs living in these lands should be a deep-rooted democracy."
THE KOBANÊ REALITY
In the same meeting, Öcalan frequently referred to the importance of the fight against ISIS and stated that Kobanê harbors all the contradictions, conflicts and possibilities of the 21st century and is the key to the solution of all problems. The leader of the PKK continued as follows: “Our people who have demonstrated an epic resistance with great courage acted with this awareness and honour. I salute all our martyrs and their families who gave life to this will in the person of Necat Suphi Ağırnaslı. What emerged in the person of our comrade Necat Suphi, is our belief and loyalty to the common future of all our peoples.”
RESISTANCE OF HUMANITY AND HONOUR
Underlining that regional peace is essential for the democratic future of the Middle East, Öcalan said, “What needs to be done is to go to the source of these problems and develop more democratic and solution oriented policies with great self-confidence and courage. In this sense, the most fundamental responsibility of all our institutions and structures is to concentrate on the democratic construction of social peace. Once again, I convey my special greetings to the resistance of humanity and honour in Kobanê and to the peoples who show solidarity in all countries of the world.”
'WHAT'S BEHIND THE WAR IS A COUP'
In the meeting held on January 9, 2015, before the liberation of Kobanê, the PKK Leader warned: “If they insist on the Kobané war, it will be a coup d'etat. A coup is brewing in Kobanê. This latest Paris incident shows that a great coup is being cooked up. We all saw it on October 6-7. If I had not written a letter, there would have been a coup. None of you were aware of this. There would have been a lot of deaths, not just 40. Even if ISIS ends in Syria, a second ISIS is being prepared. We need to wait for a move from Assad as well. I had suggested the National Pact Commission for this from the very beginning. Erdogan's approach to Arabism is very dangerous. Qatar wanted to give the control of Afrin and Kobanê to the Arabs through Saudi Arabia, and to give the control of Cizire to the South. They also made very dangerous plans on Mosul and its surroundings."
WARNING AGAINST A COUP
In the meeting held on February 4, 2015, after the liberation of Kobanê, Öcalan said, “ISIS would have burned those cities down to the ground if we haven't had these meetings here. I said that there were a plan for a coup behind the attack on Kobané. What happened there accelerated the plan for the coup. It should be noted that the coalition forces stepped in at the most critical point. The coalition performed a rare and unprecedented operation. It carried out aerial bombardment with dozens of planes. You should investigate that the same forces carried out the so-called rescue operation of that coalition and the ISIS attack that took place on the 29th.”
'SYRIA ISSUE WILL TAKE DOWN AKP'
In the meeting held on February 27, 2015, the PKK Leader stated that the AKP transferred weapons to be used against Kobanê and said, “They were planning to take Kobanê in two days without resistance. I've said it since day one. The Syrian issue will determine the fate of the AKP government."
Öcalan congratulated the victory of the liberation of Kobanê and said, "We will carry the free life to the new life in the person of Kobanê with the spirit of the resistance of Arin Mirkan."
