DİYARBAKIR - 83-year-old Kurdish prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan was hospitalized in Diyarbakır six times within eight days because of his poor health. Once in hospital he was handcuffed to the bed.
83-year-old political prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan was sent to the hospital from D-type prison in Diyarbakır because of his poor health. Once in hospital he was handcuffed to bed.
Since Özkan is unable to look after himself alone, his relatives have applied to Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requesting someone to stay with Özkan. The Chief Prosecutor replied that an application should be made to the Diyarbakır Type D Prison Prosecutor's Office.
Selma Özkan, daughter of the 83-year-old prisoner, said that her father is in a very bad condition. He has been taken to hospital six times in eight days, she said, adding: "My father is old and seriously ill. He is on a wheelchair and yet he was chained to the bed. That is unacceptable."
