A 9-month pregnant refugee Congolese woman in Izmir can neither receive treatment nor go to the hospital for childbirth since she is not registered with the Izmir Provincial Immigration Administration. The application of the woman who went to the Immigration Administration for "asylum" is not received on the grounds that "registration applications are closed".
The refugee woman, whose name we do not share for security reasons, continues to wait in front of the Izmir Provincial Immigration Administration.
VIOLENCE AND HARRASSMENT
The women who has child-birth pains from time to time have gone to Greece by boat twice with her sibling but they had to come back to Turkey because the police there harassed them and used violence on them.
GETTING THE APPLICATION IS AN OBLIGATION
Following the woman's application to the Izmir Bar Association Legal Aid Center, a lawyer was appointed by the bar association. Following the process, Member of the Board of Izmir Bar Association Att. Deman Güler told that the asylum application is secured both by international conventions and domestic legal remedies. Deman Güler said: “If you do not receive the asylum application of a nine-month pregnant woman for any reason, you will violate many rights, especially the right to life of the refugee, and you will become in conflict with your laws. It is a legal obligation to start this process. As the bar association, we will continue to follow the application of this refugee."
