ANKARA - Attorneys leaving the court room because their colleagues were not allowed in the court room said: "We left the court room to avoid being a party in this unlawfullness."
Not all lawyers were taken into the Kobanê Trial, which was opened against 108 people, 28 of whom were arrested, including Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former Co-Chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş. The attorneys in the court room decided to leave the court when their colleagues were not allowed in.
Stating that they will not attend the hearing unless all their colleagues are allowed in, made a press release in front of the court room. Attorney Mehmet Emin Aktar spoke on behalf of the attorneys while attorneys protested the situation applausing the court board.
'WE WILL NOT MAKE OUR DEFENSE'
Stating that they will not make their defense until there is an independent court, Aktar said: "They do not allow the attorneys in the court room with flimsy reasons. If they won't allow all of our colleagues in the court room we will not go on with the defense. Because even though we said that the integrity of the defense was broken, our demands were not recorded. The court board stated that the decision of acceptance of the indictment was read and did not do a roll call. We left the court room to avoid being a party in this unlawfullness. We will not go on with the defense until our colleagues are allowed in. We will not make a defense until there is an independent court board here."
