ADANA - Hunger striking prisoner Selami Keleş from Düzce Type T Closed Prison told that 15 prisoners from Düzce Prison were handed a disciplinary punishment of 11 days of solitary confinement for participating in the hunger strike action.
Selami Keleş, an epilepsy patient who is detained in Düzce T Type Closed Prison, told his family about the violations of rights they are subjected to, in a weekly phone call. Stating that the hunger strike initiated by the prisoners to put an end to the isolation imposed upon PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in prison continues, Keleş noted that the prison administration did not provide the hunger strikers with the necessary and sufficient vitamins.
Keleş stated that an investigation was launched against them and they were punished with solitary confinement because they submitted a petition explaining the purpose of the strike to the Ministry of Justice to the prison administration. Keleş said, "15 people were sentenced to solitary confinement for 11 days because our petitions included the words, 'Mr. Abdullah Öcalan'. During the counts, the guards are provoking the prisoners and we are subjected to psychological pressure."
