'Halay' trial adjourned in Dêrsim

DÊRSIM - The trial of 15 people on charges of “making propaganda for an illegal organization” for dancing to Kurdish songs in Dêrsim was postponed. 

The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against 15 people due to “making propaganda of an illegal organization” for taking a halay to Kurdish songs during the primary elections of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) to determine the mayor candidates was held. 
 
DEM Party Dêrsim Provincial Co-Chair Esma Ataş, DEM Party Party Councillor (PM) Beybun Aslan, Jiyan Aslan, Pir News Agency Reporter Nuray Atmaca, Cemile Ataş, Besime Gök, Nazlı Çelik Öz, Barış Göktepe, Özer Laçin, Sevim Sağlam, Leyla Aslan, D. B., Y. Ö., N. Y. were present at the hearing held at Tunceli 1st Assize Court. One of the defendants M. K. did not attend the hearing with an excuse. 
 
The defendants defended against the accusation, reminding that halay is not a crime and demanded their acquittal. The lawyers of the defendants stated that they would make their defense after the analysis of the halay footage in the file. 
 
Accepting the lawyers' request, the court adjourned the hearing to December 4.
