NEWS CENTER - Journalists detained in Izmir met with lawyers. Journalists, whose statements are expected to be taken tomorrow, stated that they were detained with handcuffs behind their backs.
 
Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporters Semra Turan, Delal Akyüz and Tolga Güney, JINNEWS reporter Melike Aydın, Duvar newspaper reporter Cihan Başakçıoğlu and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) press worker Fatma Funda Akbulut were detained in house raids in Izmir yesterday morning. .
 
Journalists held at Anti-terror Branch (TEM) in Çankaya met with their lawyers today.
 
It was learned that the journalists were accused of "being members of a terrorist organization" and that the restriction order on their files continues.
 
REAR-HANDCUFFS
 
Journalists reported that their digital materials were confiscated during the meeting. They also stated that they were handcuffed behind their backs and taken into custody. Lawyers shared that the police forced Semra Turan and Delal Akyüz to bow their heads and take photographs during their detention. It was stated that Akyüz had a headache due to the police that squeezed her neck hard.
 
Detainee Melike Aydın told the lawyers that the police officers who took her statement when she was detained in 2019 wanted to have a "verbal meeting" with her.
 
The proceedings against journalists at the police station continue. Lawyers stated that they expect the journalists' statements to be taken tomorrow.
