WAN - In the statement made at the start of the "Great Freedom March" in Wan, it was said: "Achieving peace, justice, democracy and freedom in this country is possible by ensuring the physical freedom conditions of Abdullah Ocalan and accepting the status of the Kurds."

Political parties and non-governmental organizations are launching the "Great Freedom March" in Wan and Kars today, demanding the abolishing of the Imralı isolation and the freedom of Abdullah Ocalan for the solution of the Kurdish issue. The march will continue until February 15.

The Wan branch of the march started with a statement made at a hotel in the city. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır and People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, as well as many representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the statement. Marchers wore aprons written on its: "Freedom March/To Mesha Azadiyê"

‘ISOLATION SABOTAGES THE COMMON FUTURE’

DEM Party Şırnak Deputy Zeki Irmez read the joint statement. Irmez said: "The policies of absolute isolation and lack of communication carried out unlawfully against Mr. Abdullah Ocalan in the Imralı island prison target the Kurds right to democracy and freedom, the people of Turkey to peace, and the people of the Middle East to live equally together."

Emphasizing that the isolation in Imralı has surrounded the entire geography and "sabotaged the common future of the peoples," İrmez said: "Both justice, the search for rights, and democratic demands are under total isolation. All public opinion must know that the Imralı system is the starting point of the lawlessness regime that has spread throughout the country. If the isolation that enslaved the society and the country spread starting from Imralı, the way to bring Turkey together with a free, democratic, peaceful, just, livable environment and future is through ending the Imralı isolation and opening the great path to freedom. For this reason, we are determined and willful to the end to expand our democratic struggle and democratic resistance against all attacks targeting all of life. We will proceed with determined steps until the end, with the aim of bringing freedom to the whole country, starting from Imralı. For this purpose, we are launching the Great Freedom March today. We will give the strongest response to the darkness of isolation imposed on the people with our Freedom March. Because neither the Kurds nor the people of Turkey will ever accept a life imposed under the darkness of isolation, and we will never accept it.”
