ANKARA - Jiyan Ateş, whose release has been postponed since October 2021, was prevented from attending her father's funeral.

Pınar Ateş, the older sister of Jiyan Ateş, who is held in Sincan Closed Women's Penitentiary Institution and whose release was postponed by the Administrative Observation Board, called the prison and reported the situation regarding her father's death. The family, who also submitted the death certificate, applied for Jiyan Ateş to attend the funeral. The prison administration stated that the family had to cover the travel expenses to attend the funeral. The family asked them to inform their siblings that they would not be able to cover the expenses.

The administration did not take any steps to ensure Jiyan Ateş's attendance at the funeral and did not convey the information about his death. Ateş was taken to the corridor for a phone call on Friday and saw many guards waiting in the hall. She received information from her family on the phone that her father had passed away. Ateş, who was prevented from attending the funeral, was not given the additional telephone right that every prisoner has been given until now.

Ateş and her family will file a criminal complaint against those responsible for preventing attendance at the funeral and not reporting the death on time.
