AMED - Three months have passed since the Ministry of Justice's circular for the release of ill prisoners, but no politically ill prisoners have been released. Two of the 3 people who were released were detained in the military coup case, and one was under arrest for criminal offenses.

Despite the public pressure on the release of seriously ill prisoners, the political prisoeners are not released despite the circular titled "Proceedings on the Mitigation or Abolition of Sentences of Persons Due to Persistent Illness, Injury and old", signed by Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ, on 3 January. Following the publication of the circular, 87-year-old İlhan Kılıç and 75-year-old Kenan Deniz, who were sentenced to life imprisonment on January 26, February 28, with the consent of AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan, and criminal convict Mustafa Kartal, were sentenced to 9 years, 46 months and 24 days of "continuous illness". Despite the fact that 3 months have passed since the publication of the circular, there has been no change in the situation of 1,517 ill prisoners, 38 of whom are urgent and 651 seriously ill, who are on the list of the Human Rights Association (İHD).

ILL PRISONER STRUGGLES FOR SURVIVAL

Sıddık Güler, a 27-year-old prisoner on the seriously ill prisoner list of the İHD, is one of the prisoners who need to be released urgently. Güler, who has been struggling with hypertension, heart and inflammatory joint rheumatism diseases for years, was transferred from İskenderun Type T Closed Prison to Menemen Type R Closed Prison on March 29 for treatment. Speaking about her husband's recent health, Hasine Güler said that she has been taken for treatment for more than a year, but his condition is getting worse day by day.

ILL PRISONER MEETS WITH WHEELCHAIRS

Stating that her children visited their father twice after the earthquake, Güler said: “My husband was brought to the place of visit in a wheelchair due to health problems. His condition is getting worse day by day. He is constantly brought to the hospital. He does not share any information about his disease with us."

Reminding the circular issued by the Ministry of Justice, Güler said: "It has been 3 months, but there has been no development. It leaves those close to them. However, when it's our prisoners' turn, they don't let them go. Is this justice? It means that there is no right, law and justice in this country. Ill prisoners cannot meet their daily basic needs due to their age and illness. We want the ill prisoners to be released as soon as possible.”

'ATK IS NOT IMPARTIAL'

Condemning the reports given by ATK, Boltan said: “The ATK should act impartially. The ill prisoners should have reported. There are prisoners who are old and ill in the prison, and these prisoners are unable to survive without the help of their friends. They torture both the ill prisoner and their families with this method. We are proud of our children's cause. We will be with our children until our last breath.”
