ANKARA - Mehmet Şerif Süren, who was arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he went to Europe after the pressures of the KDP, and whose extradition was requested by the MIT, was reportedly held in the same ward with ISIS members and threatened.

Kurdish politician and human rights defender Mehmet Şerif Süren, who had to leave the Federated Kurdistan Region due to the pressures of Kurdistan Democratic Party(KDP), was arrested on January 10 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he went to Europe to seek political asylum. Süren, who was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison in the case he was tried in Turkey, and whose extradition was requested by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), has not been released for 7 months despite the three release orders. His family and attorney applied to the European Court of Human Rights(ECtHR) for "ungent measure" regarding Süren's condition. His brother Muharrem Süren again wrote a letter to the ECtHR on 6 August. Süren, who made a phone call with his imprisoned brother, called for the sensitivity to human rights and amnesty international.

SÜREN WAS THREATENED IN PRISON

Stating that he made a phone call with his brother's attorney Muhammed Cucak on August 8, Süren said: "Our attorney tried the all legal means in Bosnia and Herzegovina but he is not very hopeful. We have been working with attorney Cucak on my brother's case for 7 mounths but for the first time, the attorney expressed that he is hopeless. We also applied to a higher court for his brother. Three people visited my brother in prison and they asked his political activities and threatened him that he will pay for what he has done. We knows that they are members of the MIT."

SÜREN IS IN THE SAME WARD WITH ISIS

Süren said: "My brother is in the same ward with ISIS who carried out massacres against Kurds in Rojava for 7 mounths. The request for political asylum is one of the most fundamental rights. Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities should recognise his political asylum request as soon as possible. The situation of the political prisoners in Turkey should be taken into accaunt. There is a brutal practice in there. The prisoners are taken ill or killed in prisons. It is a crime for Bosnia and Herzegovina to extradite my brother to Turkey, which is the enemy of Kurds. We call for the sensitivity to human rights and amnesty international and we never give up for justice."
