ANKARA – A decision of continuation of arrest were made against 26 politicians including former Co-chairs of HDP, Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş.
Within the scope of the "Kobanê investigation" initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a detention examination was conducted over the files of 26 politicians, including HDP former Co-Chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş.
The detention examination for the former Co-Chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Sebahat Tuncel, former Co-Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Gültan Kışanak, former HDP MP Aysel Tuğluk and Nezir Çakan, who were detained together with Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş, were conducted by the Ankara 6th Criminal Court of Peace.
The decision of continuation of arrest was made on grounds that 'there were no new situation developing in favor of the arrested, the nature of the crimes charged, the state of the evidence, the investigation was not concluded and the evidence could be spoied."
THE APPEAL REJECTED
The objection made by the lawyers regarding the arrests of the politicians was rejected by the Ankara 7th Criminal Court of Peace on the same grounds.
Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş have been arrested since 20 September 2019 within the scope of the investigation. The court board of Ankara 16th High Criminal Court added its examination of the investigation on the fact that the investigation was repeated.
Within the scope of the investigation, the detention examination of 20 politicians who were detained and arrested during the operation carried out on September 25 was conducted by the Ankara 4th Criminal Magistrate's Office.
Similarly, in the decision of the judge, a decision of continuation of arrest was made for the same reasons. The appeal made to a higher court was rejected.
The politicians whose examination of detention were made, are as follows: "HDP Foreign Relations Commission member Nazmi Gür, former MPs Beyza Üstün, Ayla Akat Ata and İbrahim Binici, BDP former Chair Emine Ayna, HDP former CEB members Bircan Yorulmaz, Berfin Özgü Köse, Dilek Yağ, Can Memiş, Günay Kubilay, Bülent Parmaksız, Pervin Oduncu, İsmail Şengül, Mesut Bağcık, Ayşe Yağcı and Cihan Erdal, HDP former General Treasurer Zeki Çelik, HDP RTÜK member Ali Ürküt and Kars Municipality Co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen, HDP CEB member Alp Altınörs.
Recently, HDP former Party Assembly member Meryem Adıbelli was arrested within the scope of the investigation. With Adıbelli, the total number of those arrested within the scope of the investigation rose to 27.
