In Iraq, which is one of the countries where the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic is seen, which was declared as a global epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people who died as of March 18 has reached 11 and the number of cases has reached 154. In the country where the curfew was declared in some cities against the virus, statements are made almost every day. However, it is noteworthy that no steps have been taken regarding Maxmur Camp, which has been under embargo for more than 8 months.

 

'NO MEDICINE LEFT'

 

Pointing out that the embargo was imposed on the camp by the Iraqi Federated Kurdistan Region administration, Maxmur Camp Municipal Co-Mayor Bedran Pirani said: "There is no medicine in our hospital and our healthcare providers are not even allowed to go out of the camp to provide medication. They are tightening the embargo every da."

 

Stating that the virus increases its effect day by day, Pirani said: "For the last 15 days IKBY has been making decisions on this virus. But they do not take any steps for our camp. They do not consider us humans. Although we have been under embargo for 9 months, they do not give any humanitarian aid. The regional government has imposed a curfew for 3 days. We have a problem with food, water and medication."

 

'EMBARGO SHOULD BE REMOVED'

 

Pirani adressed the United Nations (UN), Irak and IKBY, and said: "This embargo must be removed. We are expecting food, water and medication. Our call to all international institutions and people who defend human rights should bring humanitarian aid to our camp as soon as possible."
