According to 2019 data of the Human Rights Association (İHD) Central Prisons Commission, a total of 3,333 patients 457 of whom are heavy, are kept in prisons. One of these sick prisoners is Devrim Ayık, who was transferred to Antalya L Type Closed Prison after being arrested with the claim of "being a member of the organization" 4 months ago. Ayık, who is 76 percent disabled and has a CHRON disease (intestinal poisoning), is not released despite the increasing health problems.

 

BLOOD COMES FROM HIS MOUTH AND NOSE

 

Öngör stated that sick prsioner Ayık was treated in Akdeniz University Medicine Faculty Hospital till October 12, 2019 via a special treatment, in which his blood levels were continuously tested and he was fed with special serum. Öngör stated that, as the process of imprisonment began, disease re-appeared as an accute attack. Öngör said, "Prisoner states that blood comes form his breech, mouth and nose and he can only stand up with the help of his friends in cell. He needs to make a diet of protein, but this is not possible in the conditions of prison. Due to intestinal obsturction and diarrhea, he needs a diet program but such a program can not be supplied by prison management."

 

'THERE IS DISCRIMINATION'

 

Stating that there is an intense application regarding the sick prisoners, Öngör underlined that they have attempted to carry this issue both to the Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, but the government and officials have turned a deaf ear for the solution of the problems of the sick prisoners. Öngör stated that the right to access health services and the right to live rights was prevented by discrimination against political prsioners who are extremely sick. In 2019, 50 heavily sick prisoners lost their lives in prisons.
