ELAZIĞ – The tests distributed by The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) in the Uzuntaş Village in the Pütürge district of Malatya, which was highly affected by the earthquake of epicenter Elazığ, broke and flied after the storm and the earthquake victims, having no place else to accommodate, needed to go back to their earthquake-damaged house

In the village residing on the foothills of Nemrut Mountain, there are around 200 houses, most of them being damaged by the last earthquake with the epicenter of Elazığ.  The tents distributed by AFAD could not take the last storm and broke.

Villagers needed to return to their earthquake-damaged houses due to the extreme conditions of cold in minus degrees.

‘TENTS ARE NOT ABLE TO ENDURE THE CONDITIONS

Abidin Çeber (55), whom we have reached by the phone spoke about their anxiety due to the aftershocks.
Çeber relayed the information that there is no house without damage in the region after the earthquake and some of the villagers have already left the village because they have no place of accommodation in the village now. Çeber told: “Our village is high up in the foothills of Nemrut Mountain. The cold is measured by minus degrees. One can only hold on two minutes in the conditions of outside. Tents are not able to ENDURE THE CONDİTİONS HERE. When there is a storm even the roofs of the houses fly.”

‘HUNGRY WOLFS PILE OFF THE VILLAGE’

Pointing out that Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urban Planning had not conducted a research on the damaged houses, Çeber stated that: “We have called all the related contacts. They had neither come nor given a call back.” Çeber explained that this is why the villagers needed to go back to their earthquake-damaged houses and he will leave his village.

Çeber also states that hungry wolfs pile off the village during the nights and under these circumstances, it is impossible to reside in the village.
