DERSİM - The ban order came after amid protests for a university student who has been missing for 12 days.

Governorship of Tunceli (Dersim) has banned all demonstrations and events in the province until January 30.

Releasing a statement on its website, the Governor's Office said some groups try to provoke the people into hatred and animosity over "recently occurred sad events," apparently referring to protests for Gülistan Doku, a university student who has been missing for 12 days.

The Governor's Office said that it banned the demonstrations considering that protests could be "turned into propaganda of terrorist organizations."

Doku did not return to her dormitory on January 5 and her friends were not able to reach Doku by phone. Consulting her friends and tracking the signals of her mobile phone, police officers also examined the city surveillance cameras and found that she got on the university minibus at the bus stop in Atatürk Neighborhood at 11.29.

However, even though the city surveillance cameras along the way were examined, the place she got off could not be found. The driver of the minibus told the police that he doesn't remember where she got off.

Considered as a suspect, Doku's boyfriend claimed that she fled abroad. He was called on at 4.26 p.m. on the day she went missing, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) found after examining HTS recordings, daily Hürriyet reported. As her phone was turned off, he left a message. The prosecutor's office is working to obtain the message, according to the report.
