VAN - Ipekyolu Municipality co-mayor Azim Yacan, who was replaced by a trustee and arrested, was being held in a solitary cell. It been disclosed that Yacan had a panic attack.
Following an investigation Ipekyolu Municipality co-mayor Azim Yacan was first taken into custody on 8 November and then remanded in custody on 11 November.
Yacan was first sent to Van T-Type Prison and later transferred to Erzurum H-Type Closed Prison.
After being held in a cell in Erzurum for three days, Yacan was put in an isolation cell and his applications to move to another cell were rejected.
Yacan suffered a panic attack and it has been learned he is not given newspapers, books and television.
Hatice Yacan, wife of Azim Yacan, met her husband on Monday. Yacan said that her husband had not met with anyone for two weeks and added: "My husband has stopped eating for a few days now. Yesterday he asked his lawyers to visit him immediately. All his applications to move to the ward where political prisoners are held have been rejected so far."
Yacan's wife continued: "Isolation needs to be terminated. Isolation is cruel on both the family and the prisoners. They want to break us by imposing these practices."
