ŞIRNAK - An investigation was launched against Cizre Municipality Co- Mayor Mehmet Zırığ who called the appointment of trustees a 'dictator reflex' with the accusation of 'insulting the president'. Zırığ reacted to the investigation stating 'What should we call this if not a dictator reflex?'
A new investigation was launched against Mehmet Zırığ who was elected as the Cizre Municipality Co- Mayor from People's Democratic Party (HDP) in March 31 elections. Zırığ gave his statement at the Cizre Courthouse with the accusation of 'insulting the president'. The investigation against Zırığ was launched due to the interview he gave to Mesopotamia AGency (MA). He used the phrase 'dictator reflex' in the interview.
Zırığ explained: "I used that phrase for AKP and MHP in my interview. Within the scope of freedom of expression, I expressed my discomfort with the practice of arbitrary state administration by a single person. Likewise I used my right to opposition as an elected mayor of an opposition party and I do not accept the charges."
Zırığ mentioning the investigation against him, stated that launching an investigation like this is also something made with the dictator reflex. Zırığ said: "If they take these kinds of things personally, that means they know what they are doing. They are aware. As a mayor who is dismissed and replaced by a trustee, the practice I was subjected to is an arbitrary practice. And as you know, dictatorship is a arbitrary model of administration. Just yesterday, 6 more Co-Mayors were detained and there was an attempt to appoint trustees in their places. Ofcourse we will call it a dictator reflex, what else can we call it? If they don't want us to say this, they will have to change their ways. There is no other way."
