İSTANBUL - Former ECHR Judge Rıza Türmen who drew attention to the struggle for democratization of the  regime in Turkey, said the struggle for democracy should be united.

Former European Court of Human Rights (AİHM) Judge Rıza Türmen evaluated the congestion of the system, the non democratic practices, the appointment of trustees to 3 metropolitan municipalities, the pressure on HDP and the dissolution in AKP. Türmen stated that a new social contract should be made and unity must be established for the struggle for democratization.

Türmen recalling that the trustees appointed to Diyarbakır, Van and Mardin Metropolitan Municipalities is unlawful, said: "This is not only a matter of 3 mayors, this is a matter for all society. The basis of democracy in Turkey have been shaken off its foundation with these trustees.Türmen stating that the people in these 3 metropols have been left without representation, pointed out that the votes of the people in these cities have been nullified with these trustees. Turmen emphasizing that the Governers appointed to these municipalities represent the government, said: "They removed the representatives of the people from office and appointed the government in its stead. This is not just a regional problem. The democracy of Turkey took a major hit. It is severeley wounded. Therefore, it is necessary to mobilize all the forces of democracy and we must make sure that this is not forgotton . We can't let it be a flash in the pan. This must be a long term struggle. No political party or organization can fight this alone. This struggle must be long-term. No organization or political party can fight this struggle alone. It is necessary to establish a horizontal organization like a network where all the forces who want to participate in this struggle come together and unite their energy."
