İZMİR- Şükran Öztürk, an attorney with the ÖHD stating that they visit the hunger strikers often, said: " If their demands are not met, we might face with unwished for outcomes. The legal framework of the request is a legally created,what is being requested is for the law that is regulated in writing to be applied."
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and People's Deocratic Party (HDP) HAkkari Deputy Leyla Güven's hunger strike she initiated with the demand of terminating the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is in its 77th day while the hunger strikes of the political prisoners supporting Güven is continuing.
Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) attorney Şükran Öztürk spoke about the prisoners in hunger strike in aegean region.
Özturk said that the hunger strikers had basic needs such as water, sugar and salt to the extent they have to take.Because there is no B1 vitamins in Turkey,it is being consumed as vitamin complexes. Öztürk said: " I don't know the reason for that but prisoners informed us that they are not being given sodium bicarbonate. According to the doctors, hunger strikers need to consume a certain amount of sodium bicarbonate. In some prisons, some prisoners who are in critical condition are not allowed a companion to help them meet their basic needs. The main demand of the detainees in the hunger strike initiated for the termination of isolation on Mr Abdullah Öcalan is a demand corresponding to the legislation. The hunger strikes are continuing because a short meeting with Mr. Öcalan does not suffice."
