MERSİN- With the system using the mainstream media TV series in Turkey has become a tool of violence that legitimizes the violence against women.

Psychologist Şilan Sürmeli evaluated the reflection of the legitimization of violence in times of chaos and crisis.

 

According to Sürmeli who underlines that there is a substructure of these tv shows promoting nationalism in times like these increasing and that is the government trying to shape up the society with certain arguements when they are stuck. Sürmeli stating that, that argument in Turkey is always nationalism, said: " With the rise of nationalism, violence is increasing and the limit of tolerance is decreasing.Nationalism argument is being upgraded through a war concept."

 

'WOMEN ARE BEING SUBJECTED TO VIOLENCE IN THE TV SHOWS'

 

Sürmeli drawing attention to the fact that women are subjected to violence in the tv shows mostly, said: " With the increase of conservatisation, women are considered to be second class citizens. Accordingly, the violence against women increases.The Tv shows have become the tool of violence against women.

 

Sürmeli underlining that, with the system using mainstream media to control masses, femicide is legitimized, added: " For example, when a women is murdered, they try to legitimize it with saying "She was killed by her lover, fiancé, husband etc because of jealousy. Those concepts legitimizes the murder.

 

Sürmeli stating that the Tv shows leads the society, she emphasized instead of making violent tv shows, directors must concentrate on making shows that leads the society further.
