DEM Party Youth Assembly member Vedat Ozer, who was wounded in the police attack after the "Freedom for Peace" rally in İstasyon Square in Yenişehir district of Amed (Diyarbakır), is being treated at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. His mother Remziye Ozer was able to see Ozer, who is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Neurology Department, today.

 

Ozer, who was taken out of the intensive care unit with a wheelchair, spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the attack he experienced yesterday. Stating that the risk still persists, Ozer said, "The police first hit me hard on the back of my neck, then deliberately targeted me and sprayed pepper spray directly in my face. I fainted and I don't remember what happened afterwards." 

 

Ozer said that doctors informed him that his condition was improving and that he would continue to be treated in the intensive care unit for a while. "Berxwedan jiyane (Resistance is life)" said Ozer and added, "My condition is getting better. We will resist. We will resist until the end. Our people should know that we will bring peace."

 

He stated that police officers entered the intensive care unit where he was being treated, but did not enter the room where he was being treated, but waited at the door and said, "While I was in intensive care, police officers were constantly coming and going. They wanted to go in, but they could not go in because the doctors did not give permission."

 

Reacting to the situation, Ozer's family said, "How can police officers enter and exit the place, which should be under isolation, while they can only let us in once?"

 

Ozer's sister Evin Ozer stated that she and her brother had attended the rally for peace and brotherhood and said, "While we were expecting peace and democracy to be ensured in this process, such an attack took place."

 

Expressing that her brother was targeted, Evin Ozer said, "This attack happened even though the rally was allowed. My brother's illness was triggered by the attacks he was subjected to when he was detained during the trustee protests in Êlih (Batman). In Amed, he was taken into custody with great violence in the same way. In other words, my brother was directly targeted. It will be 48 hours before his condition improves, but he still has not fully recovered. My brother was deliberately targeted. However, my brother is struggling for peace and democracy. But even the slightest song he sings is labelled as 'propaganda' and 'inciting people to hatred and hatred'."

 

Visits to Ozer's family continued today. DEM Party Youth Assembly members waited with the family in front of the hospital and said that the attack was deliberate. DEM Party and DBP provincial and district organisations, Amed Bar Association, Amed branch of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (OHD) and Özer's friends visited the family and wished them well.

 

Amed Bar Association and OHD Amed branch stated that they will follow the legal process.
