RIHA - All defendants in the attack case against the Şenyaşar family were released.

The trial process, which started over the attack by the bodyguards and relatives of former AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız against the Şenyaşar family in Pirsûs (Suruç) district of Riha (Urfa) on June 14, 2018, continues. After the attack, two separate investigations were launched for the attacks on the Şenyaşar family at the workplace and hospital. Later, the files were merged.

The 8th hearing of the lawsuit filed against 30 people, 4 of whom are arrested, was held at Malatya 3rd High Criminal Court. Fadıl Şenyaşar, who lost his father and two brothers in the attack, attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from Diyarbakır Type T Prison No 2. Other arrested defendants Enver Yıldız, Mekail Şimşek and Celal Yıldız also attended the hearing via SEGBİS from their prisons.

PROSECUTOR ASKED FOR RELEASE

Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons in the massacre, did not attend the hearing due to health problems. Lawyers of the Şenyaşar family were present at the hearing.

The prosecutor announced their final opinion in the hearing that started after the identification. The prosecutor demanded the release of all arrested defendants and a further investigation (extension of the prosecution).

The lawyers of the Şenyaşar family took the floor against the prosecutor's closing statement and pointed out that the request for release was appropriate and demanded the release of Fadıl Şenyaşar. Other defendant lawyers made the same demand.

The hearing was adjourned for a decision. The court ruled for the release of all arrested defendants. The court ordered “house arrest” for the defendants. The next hearing will be held on February 21, 2025.

'STRUGGLE WILL CONTINUE'

After more than 6 years of struggle for justice with his mother Emine Şenyaşar, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Urfa MP Ferit Şenyaşar spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the release decision. Şenyaşar reminded that he lost his father and two brothers in the attack and said: “It was a bitter joy. Justice that comes late is not justice. Justice is still not done. My brother, who was unlawfully imprisoned for 6 years and 4 months, was released. This eased my mother's pain a little bit. My mother had suspended the Justice Watch due to health problems. Upon this development, we ended the Justice Watch. Even if the vigil ends, our legal struggle will continue. We will continue our legal struggle until final justice is achieved. There are thousands of political prisoners who are in my brother's situation, who are unlawfully imprisoned. They are in the same situation as my brother and are still in prison. We will fight for them too. We will be their voice too. Our struggle will continue with determination.”
