MÊRDÎN - ÖHD announced that 11 people detained in Nisêbîn's Marînê neighborhood were subjected to torture and sexual harassment.
Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Mêrdîn (Mardin-Kurdistan) Branch made a statement regarding the beating of detainees during a house raid in Marînê (Eskihisar) rural neighborhood in Bagok Mountain region of Nisêbîn (Nusaybin) district of Mêrdîn. In the statement made on virtual media, it was explained what happened to 11 people between the ages of 15 and 77 who were detained in two separate house raids on the grounds of "search". The statement said that the detainees were tortured, sexually harassed, threatened, insulted, humiliated, subjected to hateful and discriminatory remarks and unjustly detained. The statement said that B. A. (15), R. A., S. A. and A. O., who were in the house, were beaten for hours and that the citizens were tortured with insults and threats.
'WARNED NOT TO SPEAK KURDISH'
The women were threatened, sexually harassed, subjected to hate, discrimination and insults, the statement said, adding that 77-year-old H.A. was insulted for speaking Kurdish and warned not to speak Kurdish. The statement said that the houses of the families were entered with shoes and dogs and added: "B. A. (15), N.O. and G. A. were unjustly detained and taken to the police station after the search process despite the fact that there was no detention warrant against them, and they were made to wait in a car at the door of the police station for nearly 2 hours and released without any action."
Drawing attention to national and international law, the statement said that "impunity policies and torture practices must be ended immediately" and that the incident will be followed up.
