İZMİR - No indictment has been prepared yet for the murderer of 3 Syrian refugees burned to death in Güzelbahçe in 2021. Lawyer Zafer İncin called for a faster investigation due to the gravity of the incident and its possible consequences.

 

The indictment against Kemal Korkmaz, the murderer of 3 Syrian refugees burned to death on November 16, 2021, in the Güzelbahçe district of İzmir, has not yet been prepared. Syrian refugees named Mamoun al-Nabhan, 23, Ahmed Al-Ali, 21, and Mohammed al-Bish, 17, who worked in a construction materials production workshop in the Siteler District and stayed in the shed next to the workshop, were burned to death at night by pouring gasoline on them while they were sleeping at their workplace.

 

'I ATTENDED JITEM OPERATIONS'

 

Korkmaz also admitted that he killed 3 Syrians 10 days ago in his statement. Confessing that he committed the incident with "nationalist feelings", Korkmaz said: "I was invited to JITEM by a commander during my military service in the 2000s, and I attended in JITEM's covert operations for a while." After his statemen, Korkmaz was arrested and sent to Menemen T Type Prison.

 

INVESTIGATION IS BEING STALLED

 

One of the lawyers of the cases of refugees killed in İzmir, Human Rights Association (İHD) İzmir Branch President Zafer İncin gave information about the progress in the file. Noting that the investigation process was carried out slowly and negligently, İncin said: "The incident was first tried to be closed by calling it an electricity leak. There had been great negligence, especially the firefighters, and the prosecutor's office carrying out the investigation. Unfortunately, it took a serious time to collect some evidence as a result of this negligence. Some of it has disappeared. While we were included in the file in this process, we had some requests from the investigation prosecutor. Some of these demands were met but some of them are still not welcomed or rejected. As of the current process, we want the indictment to be prepared as soon as possible and the prosecution process to begin.”
