World-renowned intellectuals, writers and politicians celebrated the 73rd birthday of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan with their posts on social media. According to Fırat News Agency (ANF) world renowned figues called for the freedom of Öcalan.

 

CATALAN CUP: WE JOIN THE DEMAND FOR FREEDOM

 

Candidatura d'Unitat Popular Països Catalans (Catalonia People's Union-CUP) shared on its official twitter account that Öcalan has been held in Imrali Type F High Security Prison since 1999, pointing out that the struggle of the Kurdish people and human rights will win. CUP said: “We join the #FreeÖcalan demand”.

 

 

REQUEST FOR FREEDOM FROM AP MEMBER SMERIGLIO

 

Massimiliano Smeriglio, who was born in Rome on May 8, 1966, taught at the University of Rome Three for years and has been a member of the European Parliament's S&D Group since 2019, celebrated Öcalan's birthday. Smeriglio shared the message "We continue to demand his freedom" with the hashtag "#FreeÖcalan" for Öcalan, whom he describes as "the historical leader of the liberation struggle of the Kurdish people".

Giuliano Granato, the National Spokesperson for People's Power in Italy, called for an end to the isolation imposed on Öcalan. Stating that it is not enough to wish Öcalan to be healthy, Granato said, “It is necessary to demand that the terrible prison isolation that he was forced to end, and above all, that he should be free. #freeocalan!”

CALL FOR FREEDOM FROM MEP

 

Pernando Barrena, Basque member of the European Parliament (MEP), also congratulated Öcalan on his birthday and drew attention to the isolation in Imrali. Barrena wrote, “On the occasion of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan's 73rd birthday, we demand an immediate end to the isolation and call for his freedom.”
